Mercado del Ensanche (Ensanche Market), Pamplona

The Ensanche Market, also known as New Market, is a prominent food market situated in the Segundo Ensanche district of Pamplona. Occupying the entire ground floor of a block, this market shares the building with municipal housing on the upper floors and commercial premises in the exterior basements. Access to the market is facilitated through four corners formed by the intersections of Amaya Street, Tafalla Street, Olite Street, and Felipe Gorriti Street. Additionally, there is a hospitality establishment, "El Mercao," renowned for its culinary offerings and recognized in the Bib Gourmand category of the Michelin Guide.

Established between 1944 and 1948, the Ensanche Market is the second market to be created in Pamplona, following the Santo Domingo Market. Covering an area of 2,600 square meters, it boasts 74 sales stalls, making it the largest of the three food markets in the city. The market's layout is organized around a central prismatic fountain adorned with a clock, creating a quadrangular and concentric geometry. Stalls are grouped according to the products they offer, providing shoppers with a convenient and efficient shopping experience.

The Ensanche Market holds historical and architectural significance, as evidenced by its Grade III listing for buildings of historical interest. Its inauguration on April 7, 1948, marked a significant milestone in Pamplona's culinary landscape, providing residents and visitors alike with access to fresh and locally sourced produce. Today, the market continues to thrive as a bustling hub of gastronomic activity, offering a wide array of fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other culinary delights to patrons from near and far.
