Merks Motor Museum, Nuremberg
Merks Motor Museum, inaugurated in April 2011, stands as Nuremberg's first dedicated automobile museum and is situated in the northeastern district of Schafhof. The museum, nestled within the premises of the former Johann Schlee window factory, showcases the private collection of the Merk family, a treasure trove accumulated over decades.
The inception of this collection traces back to 1975 when Claus Merk, a businessman with roots in the real estate sector since the 1990s, acquired and restored a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 220 S Cabriolet alongside his wife. This marked the beginning of a passionate endeavor that led to the gradual acquisition of various other vehicles, expanding the family’s collection significantly. After a meticulous two-year restoration of the factory’s 2000 square meter production hall, the museum was established, adding a significant attraction to the North Bavarian Industrial Road.
Today, Merks Motor Museum hosts an impressive array of 90 automobiles and 100 motorcycles, celebrating the rich automotive heritage. Beyond vehicles, the museum exhibits a fascinating collection of historic telephones, typewriters, and radios, most of which were manufactured in Nuremberg, thus reflecting the city's industrial history. The display is further enhanced by around 2000 model cars, a kitchen setup from the 1930s, and an office from the 1950s, providing a glimpse into the lifestyle of those times.
The museum is not only a sanctuary for automobile enthusiasts but also serves as a cultural hub, with its bistro and museum shop. It offers spaces for private celebrations and regularly hosts events such as auctions and flea markets, making it a vibrant community venue.

Nuremberg Old Town Walking Tour
The historical center of Nuremberg, Old Town (German: Altstadt) is easily differentiated from other parts of the city. Divided in two by the Pegnitz River, the district represents a complex architectural ensemble with a maze of historical lanes (e.g. Weissgerbergasse) packed with half-timber houses, linked by centuries-old bridges, such as Maxbrücke, and set against the picturesque backdrops of... view more

Hitler's Nuremberg Tour
Despite Nuremberg's storybook appearance, the city's not so distant past is rather dark. Back in 1933, amid the rise of the Third Reich, the Nazis worked really hard to leave their stamp on the city, prettifying it and renovating the architecture in a bid to accommodate their massive rallies and bombastic military parades.

Nuremberg Introduction Walking Tour
The most "German" of all cities in Germany, Nuremberg has witnessed many historic events in its lifetime. Sadly, the first thing immediately associated with Nuremberg is the rise of the Third Reich, the Nazi rallies, and the postwar trials over the Nazi leaders. Indeed, the city was favored by Hitler, who planned to build here a grandiose architectural complex for his party.
