Monumento de la Recordación, San Juan

Monumento de la Recordación honours Puerto Rican military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Unveiled on 19 May 1996, the memorial was created as a permanent place of remembrance for those who lost their lives in military service.

Its main feature is a broad semicircular wall of dark granite engraved with the names of fallen service members. By 2009, more than 2,000 names had been recorded on the monument. The curved design allows visitors to move along the wall and read individual names, giving the memorial a personal character rather than presenting military sacrifice only in general terms.

The monument is also used for wreath-laying ceremonies, military commemorations and remembrance events. Its restrained design, dark stone and long rows of names keep attention on the people being honoured. Visitors can walk quietly through the memorial area and observe how names from different conflicts are brought together in one dedicated space.
