Housed within a grand 18th-century palace, which once served as a bank, the Design and Fashion Museum stands as an impressive repository of design and fashion classics spanning from the 1930s to the present day. This remarkable collection is the result of the passion and curation of former stockbroker and media magnate Francisco Capelo.
The museum continually offers dynamic exhibitions that encompass iconic design pieces, including furnishings by luminaries like Charles and Ray Eames and Phillipe Starck. Additionally, it showcases Capelo's personal fashion assemblage, which encompasses haute couture from the 1950s, street fashion of the 1960s, and the brand aesthetics of the 1990s.
Don't miss the chance to spot remarkable items such as Ron Arad's "Big Easy" steel chair from 1951, Frank Gehry's distinctive "wiggle chair" dating back to 1972, and the iconic 1959 Vespa scooter. Fashion enthusiasts will be enthralled by Paco Rabanne's metallic leather boots, Pierre Cardin's 1950s coat designs, Alexander McQueen's exquisite fur skirt, and a splendid array of haute couture creations by celebrated designers like Vivienne Westwood and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
The museum also offers a well-appointed bookshop and a café for visitors to enjoy.
