Pakistan Air Force Museum, Karachi

The Pakistan Air Force Museum presents the history of Pakistan’s military aviation through aircraft, air-defence equipment, photographs, paintings, models, and wartime relics. The project was established in 1990, while the expanded museum complex was formally inaugurated on August 14, 1997, and opened to the public that October.

Its exhibitions document the development of the Pakistan Air Force, including its squadrons, bases, operations, aircraft, and personnel from its formation in 1947 onward. Extensive lawns display retired fighters, transport aircraft, helicopters, trainers, radar equipment, and other air-defence systems. Aircraft include the F-86 Sabre, F-104 Starfighter, Mirage, F-6, T-33, MiG-15, MFI-17 Mushshak, Antonov An-12, and HH-43 Huskie. The main archives gallery contains notable exhibits such as the Vickers Viking used by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and an Indian Air Force Folland Gnat that landed at Pasrur during the 1965 war. Additional galleries use models, paintings, photographs, historical objects, and computer displays to explain aerial warfare and the development of PAF bases and squadrons.

The museum also commemorates personnel associated with the 1965 and 1971 wars and presents material concerning more recent operations. Landscaped lawns and paved walkways connect the indoor galleries with the outdoor aircraft displays. Facilities include a children’s recreation area, souvenir shop, and entertainment simulator. School groups also visit the museum for educational programs, using original aircraft, military equipment, photographs, and visual displays to explore the development of aviation and Pakistan Air Force history.
