Palais Coburg, Vienna

Palais Coburg, originally constructed during the mid-19th century, was commissioned for Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. It remained within the family's possession until 1970 when it was eventually sold. This historic palace is situated atop the remnants of the defensive fortifications that once encircled the city of Vienna.

In contemporary times, this former palace has been transformed into a luxurious all-suite hotel. Extensive renovations were undertaken to elevate the palace to meet the standards of a high-end hotel, so guests shouldn't anticipate the typical experience of staying in an old, drafty castle-like structure. Instead, the suites offer a thoroughly modern and exceptionally well-appointed environment. Guests have the option to select from suites all located on a single floor or two-story suites, with choices available regarding the view and desired space. Interestingly, each room is named after prominent figures from the Coburg and Gotha lineage.

For wine enthusiasts visiting Vienna, a visit to the wine cellar within the palace is an absolute must. A knowledgeable sommelier will expertly guide visitors through the extensive wine collection. One of the cellars even replicates the interior of a ship, complete with port holes in the doors, creating a unique ambiance. The Champagne cellar is situated within the former ice storage area of the palace, maintaining an ideal temperature for champagne.
