Pasar Badung (Badung Market), Denpasar

Pasar Badung, or Badung Market, is one of Bali’s largest traditional markets and a central place for everyday trade. Rebuilt and reopened in 2019 after a major fire in 2016, the market now occupies a multi-storey building while keeping the busy rhythm of an older local marketplace. It is especially active in the early morning, when vendors sell vegetables, fruit, spices, fish, meat, rice, and fresh flowers used for daily Hindu offerings.

For visitors, the market offers a direct look at Balinese food culture and household life. Stalls display spices, fruit, coconuts, and temple flowers, while upper levels offer textiles, clothing, ceremonial items, and everyday goods. Despite its traditional feel, the rebuilt market also includes elevators, escalators, ramps, free Wi-Fi, and a digital weighing station for price checks.

Another point of interest is the Badung River behind the market, now revitalized as a clean promenade often called “Tukad Korea” because of its Seoul-inspired riverside look. At night, colourful LEDs, murals, and fountains draw local families to the riverbanks for walks and photos. The river also has historical weight: during the Puputan Badung War in 1906, it formed part of the route used by colonial troops.
