Royal Jewelry Museum, Alexandria

Royal Jewelry Museum, Alexandria

The Royal Jewelry Museum, located in the former palace of Princess Fatma Al-Zahra', is an art and history museum. It showcases a priceless collection of jewels and jewelry from the Muhammad Ali Dynasty, which ruled Egypt from 1805 to 1952. The museum also features 19th-century paintings, statues, and decorative arts.

First opened on October 24, 1986, the museum underwent several years of renovations and was reopened in April 2010. The building itself, completed in 1919, includes an eastern and western wing connected by a corridor, with walls and ceilings decorated with historical and natural scenes. Lead-inlaid glass windows further enhance its European-style aesthetic. The palace spans 4,185 square meters and is surrounded by gardens.

Originally the summer residence of Princess Fatma, the palace became a museum following a 1986 decree by President Mubarak. Renovations in 1986, 1994, and from 2004 to 2010 have increased its capacity to display more valuable exhibits, preserving the rich heritage of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty for visitors.
