The Annapolis Collection Gallery, Annapolis

The Annapolis Collection Gallery, Annapolis

The Annapolis Collection Gallery is an art gallery focused on paintings, sculpture, and photography inspired by the Chesapeake Bay and its maritime culture. Founded about 15–18 years ago, it is owned and curated by Katherine Burke. The gallery presents work by a small group of regional artists known as the six “Annapolis masters,” whose art reflects local life, sailing traditions, and the character of the bay region.

Inside, visitors can see oil paintings, watercolors, sculpture, and photography. Many works show sailboats on the bay, working boats near docks, quiet creeks, and marshlands with birds and wildlife. Others present harbor scenes, historic buildings, and seasonal coastal landscapes. The gallery has also displayed photographs by Marion E. Warren, who spent many years documenting life and communities around the Chesapeake Bay.

The gallery operates in a historic building built around 1865 by the Slama family as a shoe store. The structure reflects nineteenth-century commercial architecture. Some original details remain, including display windows, pressed tin ceilings, and a mosaic tile threshold with the Slama name. Today the space serves as a gallery showing artwork connected with the Chesapeake Bay landscape and maritime history.
