The National School of Administration, Strasbourg

Among the various educational institutions in France that grant degrees upon completion, the most esteemed one is the National School of Administration. This institution definitively relocated to Strasbourg in 2005, having previously been divided between the cities of Strasbourg and Paris.

The establishment was founded in 1945 under the guidance of Charles de Gaulle, with the intention of making high-ranking civil service positions accessible to a broader cross-section of society. Over the passage of time, the institution has played a crucial role in selecting and providing initial training to numerous prominent French officials. It has also developed into a hub of expertise in matters related to Europe.

Moreover, the school serves as a hub for conducting research and producing publications on the subject of administrative science. The campus, primary hall, and library are open to visitors for exploration.

The institution is situated within a historic edifice on Rue Saint Marguerite. The site originally saw the construction of a chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity in the year 1150. Subsequently, in 1286, the Knights of the Teutonic Order assumed control over the chapel and constructed an adjacent convent.

By the year 1371, the Knights of Saint John took up residence in this location. The convent and chapel were transformed into the Commandery of Saint John. In the year 1520, these structures were repurposed as a hospital for those afflicted by smallpox. From 1734 to 1988, the site functioned as a prison.

Following an extensive restoration process in 1993, the school gradually relocated to this site, eventually occupying the entire premises. Further renovations were carried out on the building in 2005, alongside the construction of new edifices.
