The Red House, Syracuse

The Red House, Syracuse

The Redhouse Arts Center, founded in 2001, began as a grassroots effort by a group of local artists seeking a creative home. They found it in a historic, yet neglected, three-story brick building in downtown Syracuse. With a clear vision for transformation, they launched a capital campaign in 2002 to raise $1.4 million for renovations. After extensive work, the Redhouse Arts Center officially opened its doors in July 2004, offering a vibrant space for the arts.

As a nonprofit, multicultural organization, Redhouse is committed to the production and presentation of multidisciplinary works spanning theatre, music, and visual arts. Its mission emphasizes building connections between professional, community, and educational elements, underscoring the belief that art holds the power to unite and strengthen a community. Since its opening, the center has hosted over 500 cultural events, including theatrical performances, film screenings, concerts, and art exhibitions.

Today, Redhouse operates out of a state-of-the-art, 43,000-square-foot facility in the heart of downtown Syracuse. The venue includes three black box theatres, offering seating for 50 to 300 people, as well as multiple rehearsal studios, dressing rooms, and an orchestra/sound recording studio. Fully accessible and equipped with modern lighting, audio, and video systems, it serves as a hub for both creative and corporate events. The Redhouse is also a certified venue for state and county film incentives, adding further depth to its cultural contributions.

The center’s professional theatre, innovative educational programs, and commitment to community engagement continue to make it a cornerstone of Syracuse's cultural landscape.
