Jefferson Clinton Hotel, Syracuse
The Jefferson Clinton Hotel, located in Syracuse’s historic Armory Square, dates back to 1927. Originally known as the Dome Hotel, this 10-story building was designed by architect Gustavus A. Young, who also worked at the Hotel Syracuse. With its commercial-style design, the hotel features light-colored brick, carved stone, and terra cotta, including delicately carved stone lintels above its second-floor windows. The building’s architectural beauty is complemented by its location within the Armory Square Historic District, where it remains one of the few surviving hotels to retain its original function.
Over the years, Jefferson Clinton has seen its share of challenges, particularly during the Great Depression when it was taken over by the City of Syracuse. The hotel closed in 1986 and stood vacant until it was reopened in 2001 as Hawthorn Suites. A subsequent renovation in 2005 updated the lobby and guest rooms, restoring the hotel to its former grandeur while adding modern amenities like wireless Internet and flat-screen TVs. The hotel now offers 8 rooms and 60 suites, ensuring comfort for both business and leisure travelers.
In addition to its rich history, the Jefferson Clinton Hotel offers a versatile meeting space perfect for corporate or social events, with 645 square feet and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows. Nearby, guests can explore attractions like the historic Landmark Theatre, a captivating wedding venue, or the chic SKY Armory, which accommodates up to 900 guests. With its prime location near Clinton Square and shopping at Destiny USA, the Jefferson Clinton Hotel provides the perfect base for discovering all that Syracuse has to offer.
