Turtle Conservation and Education Centre, Denpasar
The Turtle Conservation and Education Center is focused on protecting the local turtle population. It was established to combat illegal turtle trading on the island. The center cares for injured turtles, collects nests from tourist areas, and buys eggs from locals to prevent them from being consumed. These eggs are hatched at the center, and the young turtles are raised for about a month before being released back into the wild.
This center is not a major tourist spot but a small facility dedicated to the conservation of Bali's turtles. Visitors can expect a brief tour, lasting around 30 minutes, where a volunteer will guide them through the center’s efforts. The tour includes seeing rescued turtles, some of which are too injured to return to the sea, as well as visiting the nursery with recently hatched turtles. There’s also an opportunity to adopt and release a baby turtle for a fee.
Entrance to the center is free, though donations are appreciated. The center operates largely thanks to volunteers, and visitor contributions play a key role in sustaining its activities.
