Cartoon Museum, London

In addition to hosting outstanding temporary exhibitions, the Cartoon Museum showcases a vast collection spanning over two centuries, which pays homage to Britain's rich tradition of using the pen to hold prominent figures in public life accountable.

Drawing from a selection of over 6,000 original artworks, the ever-changing display typically commences with the works of Hogarth and the caricatures of renowned artists such as James Gillray, Thomas Rowlandson, and George Cruickshank. The primary focus is on British cartoons, often imbued with humor, sourced from publications like Punch and Private Eye.

The presentation concludes with contemporary pieces, including satirical sketches from national newspapers, such as Peter Brookes' portrayal of Donald Trump in The Times. Upstairs, the gallery features a variety of comic strips, ranging from Ally Sloper, the first regular British comic-strip character introduced in 1884, to the mature-themed comic Viz, along with some current examples.
