Discovery World, Milwaukee
Perched on the shores of Lake Michigan, Discovery World is Milwaukee’s flagship science and technology museum, offering hands-on, high-energy fun for curious minds of all ages. Founded by Robert Powrie Harland, Sr. in the early 1980s-originally as the Science, Economics, and Technology Center-Discovery World has grown from modest beginnings in the Milwaukee Public Library to a state-of-the-art lakeside facility that opened in 2006, thanks in part to the vision of local innovator Michael Cudahy.
Discovery World is powered by its mission: to inspire lifelong learning through the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and innovation. Visitors can explore immersive labs, test their creativity in design and engineering spaces, and dive into digital worlds through virtual simulations.
One of its crown jewels is the Reiman Aquarium, Wisconsin’s largest, where guests can walk through tunnels surrounded by Caribbean sharks, marvel at fish native to Lake Michigan, and observe aquatic life from around the globe. It’s an underwater adventure without ever leaving the city.
Discovery World’s expansive programming includes summer camps, school field trips, and community outreach efforts designed to bring science directly to learners and break down barriers to access. Whether it’s building rockets, experimenting with circuits, or watching a live science show, the museum blends education with excitement to spark that "Aha!" moment.
Today, Discovery World continues to evolve as a vibrant hub for exploration and engagement. It's not just a museum-it's a launchpad for future scientists, engineers, and innovators. For families, students, and lifelong learners, Discovery World isn’t just a place to visit-it’s a place to ignite wonder.
