Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad
Fatima Jinnah Park is a vast public recreational park. Spanning the entirety of Sector F-9, it covers 304 hectares (750 acres), making it slightly smaller than New York's Central Park. Named after Mādar-e Millat Fatima Jinnah, the sister of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the park was designed by Michael Japero and inaugurated in 1992.
The original master plan was developed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and later revised in 2005 by Pakistani architect Nayyar Ali Dada. Most of the park is covered in greenery, functioning as a wildlife sanctuary, except for areas near residential districts. It is enclosed by a steel fence with multiple entrances, though only a few are regularly used. Surrounding the fence is a footpath, and a network of footpaths inside the park facilitates recreational walking and outdoor sports.
Notable man-made structures within the park include the Leisure Arena and a McDonald's. The Leisure Arena, previously known as Mega Zone, was renovated and reopened on December 21, 2019. This complex features a sports zone with a standard-length swimming pool, gym, and tables for table tennis and snooker. Additionally, it offers bowling, arcade games, laser tag, fast food, dining areas, and various shops. The park’s open spaces are also used for driving lessons and other recreational activities.
