Galeries Lafayette, Strasbourg

Galeries Lafayette, Strasbourg

The Galeries Lafayette department store situated in Strasbourg can be found at the heart of the city, close to Place Kléber. It's right across from the Kléber bookstore. This renowned department store has been a part of Strasbourg's landscape for over a hundred years.

Ever since its establishment back in 1912, the Galeries Lafayette store has been a treasured piece of Strasbourg's architectural and historical legacy. The store provides an expansive 13,600 square meters of shopping delight, featuring a collection of over 400 brands spanning various sections like Beauty, Accessories, Leather Goods, Jewelry, Watches, Women's and Men's Fashion, Children's Clothing, Lingerie, and Home products.

The Galeries Lafayette store finds its home within an alluring historical edifice. The exterior design blends elements of French design, characterized by curved lines, and Germanic influences, featuring straighter and more rigid lines from the 1910s. Although it's often associated with the Art Nouveau style, likely due to the building's curvature mirroring the street layout, the architectural inspiration draws from the Louis XVI style.

The main entrance, oriented toward Place Kléber, is framed by four massive columns adorned with Ionic capitals. Above these columns, there are four sculptures sculpted by Charles Albert Schultz. These sculptures, representing the four seasons, add a finishing touch to the facade's grandeur.
