Government Nizamia General Hospital, Hyderabad

Government Nizamia General Hospital is a historic public hospital linked with Unani medicine. Founded under Mir Osman Ali Khan, it also became associated with Unani education through Government Nizamia Tibbi College. It is especially known for regimen-based therapies such as therapeutic massage, guided exercise, and medicinal baths, which continue older methods of treatment alongside outpatient care.

Locally called Charminar Dawakhana, the hospital is known for Unani treatment, especially for chronic conditions and rehabilitation care. Although it was built to serve the wider public, especially poorer communities, its herbal and traditional therapies were also valued by members of elite society.

The building reflects Nizam-era civic design, with arches, domed forms, stonework, and a balanced façade. For tourists, it is best appreciated from the outside, since it remains a working hospital. Its main interest lies in the way it brings together medicine, royal patronage, traditional healing, and the architectural identity of the old urban core.
