Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park, Hyderabad

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is one of the area’s most important green spaces, covering roughly 390 acres amid dense urban development. Often described as a major “green lung,” it plays a significant role in reducing pollution and preserving native vegetation. The park features ancient Deccan granite formations and a dual-track system, with a free outer walkway and a regulated inner trail.

The park supports rich biodiversity, including numerous bird species, reptiles, butterflies, and small mammals. Around 30 species of butterflies have been recorded here, while the forested interior shelters animals such as porcupines, jungle cats, and the rarely seen Indian pangolin. Peafowl often wander near the paths, while the outer circuit draws many walkers and joggers each day.

The protected interior also preserves elements of the former Chiran Palace estate, once associated with Prince Mukarram Jah, the last Nizam’s heir. Beyond the main palace are historic structures such as the Gol Bungalow, the Mor Bungalow, stable blocks, an armoury, and the Masjid-e-Chiran Palace, built for the royal family’s private prayers. The estate was also known for its royal vehicle collection, while Prince Mukarram Jah’s interest in machinery gave the site an unusual mechanical legacy.
