King Avenue United Methodist Church, Columbus

King Avenue United Methodist Church, Columbus

King Avenue United Methodist Church traces its origins to 1888 when a small group gathered for Sunday School in a neighborhood building. Officially established in 1889, the church quickly outgrew its first chapel, prompting the construction of a larger stone structure in 1904. Unfortunately, a fire in 1918 destroyed this second building, leading to the construction of the present church, dedicated in 1922. This third structure mirrors its predecessor in style but boasts many improvements, including a more expansive design to accommodate its growing congregation.

The church is particularly known for its memorials, notably the World War I War Memorial Window, which commemorates the significant impact of the Great War. The church’s legacy is further enriched by its iconic chime, which has marked both regular and special events since its installation in 1922.
