Magistratski trg (Magistrate's Square), Belgrade

Magistrate's Square (Magistratski trg) is a central square located in the Zemun municipality of Belgrade. Situated between the main thoroughfare of Glavna Street and the scenic Key of Liberation (Kej Oslobođenja) along the Danube, the square forms a pivotal part of the district of Donji Grad.

The square is named after the Zemun Magistrate building, which has historically housed the Zemun Town Hall. This building, constructed between 1823 and 1832, was designed by architect Jozef Felber in a blend of classical and baroque architectural styles. It is one of the most notable buildings in Zemun and has been declared a cultural monument.

Magistrate's Square is a pedestrian zone, free from vehicular traffic, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The square hosts a variety of cafes and restaurants, contributing to its vibrant atmosphere.

In addition to its dining and leisure facilities, the square is a hub for various services including pharmacies, law offices, an insurance company, a bank, shops, opticians, a dry cleaner, and a project bureau. Notably, the Municipal Assembly of Zemun is located on the square, at the corner of Preradovićeva Street and Magistrate's Square.

Adding to the cultural heritage of the area, the House of the Markovic Family, situated at the corner of Gospodska Street and Magistrate's Square, is another key architectural site. Built in the late Baroque style typical of bourgeois houses in old Zemun, it has also been designated as a cultural monument.

Magistrate's Square is not only a center for administrative and commercial activities but also a cultural and social gathering place in the heart of Zemun, offering a unique blend of historical architecture and modern amenities.
