Stara Kapetanija Gallery, Belgrade

Stara Kapetanija Gallery, Belgrade

The Stara Kapetanija Art Gallery, established in 1985, stands as a central hub of artistic activity in Belgrade, specifically within the scenic Zemun Quay area. This gallery is one of the most distinguished and popular art destinations in the city, particularly celebrated for its contemporary art exhibitions which predominantly feature paintings by Serbian artists, including several award-winning creators.

The gallery was founded by the Association of Fine and Applied Artists of Zemun, which today boasts approximately 120 members. This association has shaped the gallery's direction to ensure that it serves as a vibrant venue for art in both Zemun and New Belgrade, offering a dynamic calendar of events that showcases a variety of artistic expressions without favoring any particular style or genre.

Throughout its 38-year history, Stara Kapetanija has hosted over 800 exhibitions, maintaining a robust annual program that includes both independent and collective showcases. Notably, the gallery organizes the traditional "Zemun Salon," "Spring Exhibition," and the esteemed "International Zemun Caricature Salon," highlighting its commitment to a broad range of artistic endeavors.

In addition to its temporary exhibitions, the gallery also maintains a permanent sales exhibition, where visitors can purchase works by local fine and applied artists. This combination of showcasing contemporary talent and supporting artists through sales makes Stara Kapetanija a pivotal institution in Belgrade's cultural landscape.
