MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, Krakow

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków (MOCAK) (Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej w Krakowie) emerged as a vibrant contemporary art hub in Kraków, inaugurated on the 19th of May, 2011. Nestled just 3 kilometers away from the city center, it occupies the site where part of Oskar Schindler's factory once stood. This gallery stands as a dedicated platform for showcasing and nurturing contemporary art and artists, with a keen focus on works from the past two decades.

Comprising an array of amenities like a library, bookshop, café, and a laboratory for conserving contemporary art, the museum's offerings extend beyond mere exhibitions.

Within its walls, one can find an array of works by notable artists including AES+F, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Beat Streuli, Ragnar Kjartansson, Robert Kuśmirowski, Tomasz Bajer, Krištof Kintera, Maria Stangret, and Edward Dwurnik. The mainstay exhibit graces the first floor, while dynamic temporary displays are hosted on the second.

Architect Claudio Nardi envisioned the museum's structure, drawing inspiration from neomodern architectural principles. The sprawling exhibition space is thoughtfully partitioned into multiple sections, encompassing a generous 4,000 square meters, all within a larger museum complex spanning 10,000 square meters. This impressive venture incurred an estimated cost of 70 million PLN (approximately €16 million), its funding derived in part from the European Union's resources.
