New Apostolic Church, Lucerne
The New Apostolic Church Switzerland comprises congregations not only in Switzerland but also in several other countries and regions. As of today, the District Church of Switzerland, including these various locations, has a membership of over 56,000 individuals. They receive spiritual guidance and care from four apostles and eight bishops, along with approximately 2,200 other ministers.
The origins of the New Apostolic Church (NAC) trace back to the Christian revival movements of the nineteenth century. In Southern England and Scotland, Christians from different denominations were brought together by their shared belief in the renewed activity of the Holy Spirit.
Starting in 1832, certain individuals with prophetic gifts began making declarations that ultimately led to the selection of twelve individuals for the role of apostles. These apostles conferred the gift of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands, preparing believers for the anticipated return of Christ.
The New Apostolic Church sees itself as a continuation of the early Christian Church, which is represented globally and organized into various District Churches. The core of its doctrine is based on the Holy Spirit and a modern, spiritual message. This doctrine is intended to proclaim God's plan of salvation and to prepare the faithful for the promised return of Christ.
