Old Town San Diego Historic Park, San Diego (must see)
The Old Town San Diego Historic Park is located in the neighborhood that carries that same name, i.e. Old Town. In today’s times, it is a state historical park, which is protected by the State of California. The purpose of the location is to have a place to preserve the way the town of San Diego looked many years ago, during the development of the western part of the United States. You can find period style buildings here dating from 1820 through 1870.
The Park was established in 1968. Since that time, a lot of people have visited the area. In fact, during the 2005 to 2006 reporting year, this location was the most visited State Park in the California Park System. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
You can visit actual adobe homes that are part of the complex. In addition there are seventeen museums, gift shops, and restaurants to see. There are some beautiful gardens attached to some of the old homes, which never fails to appeal to the gardener in your group. You will also want to see the old carriage collection. The best thing about the park is that it is free of charge.
