Palais Rothschild, Vienna
The Palais Rothschild, located on Prinz-Eugen-Straße, is one of the five Palais Rothschild properties in the city of Vienna, all of which were once owned by members of the Rothschild banking family of Austria. This particular Palais was the second one commissioned by Baron Albert von Rothschild and is situated on the same street as his larger Palais, known as Palais Albert Rothschild at Prinz-Eugen-Straße 20-22, which unfortunately was demolished in 1954.
The construction of the Palais Rothschild was undertaken in 1894 and entrusted to the renowned theatre architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. The building, standing at four stories tall, was meticulously designed in a neobaroque architectural style.
During the dark period of Nazi occupation in Austria, like all Jewish-owned properties at the time, the Palais Rothschild fell victim to extensive looting. Despite this, the building miraculously survived without any significant structural damage. Today, it proudly serves as the Brazilian embassy in Vienna.
