Palais Trautson, Vienna

Situated on Museumstraße, this palace was constructed in 1712 for Johann Leopold Donat von Trautson, the inaugural Prince of Trautson. It remained under the ownership of the distinguished Trautson family until 1760 when Marie Therese acquired it to accommodate the Hungarian guard. Subsequently, the Austrian State acquired the palace from Hungary and designated it as the headquarters for the Ministry of Justice. Presently, the palace serves as office space for the Austrian Ministry of Justice.

Designed by the renowned Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, Palais Trautson ranks among Vienna's most exquisite Baroque palaces. The palace's exterior boasts an array of captivating decorations, featuring statues adorning the roof, gate, and first-floor doors. You'll undoubtedly be intrigued by the bas-reliefs adorning the window sills, as well as numerous other charming embellishments on the façade. The gardens, thoughtfully designed by Jean Trehet, are uniquely situated to the right of the palace when facing it.
