Parque Etxebarria (Etxebarria Park), Bilbao

Parque Etxebarria (Etxebarria Park), Bilbao

Etxebarria Park provides a peaceful retreat from the city’s activity. Once the location of the Echevarria steel foundry, it was opened in 1990 as part of a major urban renewal project that transformed the industrial grounds into a green space. Today, it holds the distinction of being Bilbao’s largest public park.

One of the park’s most prominent features is the towering chimney-the sole remaining relic of the steelworks that once inhabited the site, offering a tangible link to Bilbao’s industrial heyday. Wander among open lawns, trees alleys, and well-kept pathways, and you’ll witness how the park breathes new life into its metal past, merging history with modern-day leisure.

In 2023, Etxebarria Park underwent a thoughtful renovation that brought significant new attractions: a modest yet charming lake, a shaded grove, water-play areas for children, and plentiful seating including tables and loungers for relaxing afternoons. Diving deeper into the playful spirit of the upgrade, the park now features a Splashpad and CoolHu mist zone-ideal for cooling down during warm Bilbao summers.

Bilbao's Old Town Walking Tour

Bilbao's old town, also known as The Seven Streets, is the medieval heart of the city. Indeed, this ancient neighborhood, a place where the city began and which had been fortified by walls until the late 19th century, today consists of seven main streets and many narrow alleys – called cantons (kantoi, cantón) – that connect them.
