Plaza de Feijóo (Feijoo Square), Oviedo

Feijoo Square lies within Oviedo’s old quarter, just steps from the Archaeological Museum of Asturias. Around it, you can spot the Church of Santa María la Real de la Corte and the simple façades that lend the plaza its calm atmosphere. The space received its current name in 1869 in tribute to the Benedictine monk and Enlightenment thinker Benito Jerónimo Feijóo.

At the center stands the 1953 statue of Fray Benito Feijóo, a stone work by sculptor Gerardo Zaragoza, positioned to face the former monastery where the scholar once lived and lectured. Today, the square also adjoins the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Oviedo, continuing its long association with learning and intellectual life.
