Rominceanu Park, Bucharest

Rominceanu Park, Bucharest

Romniceanu Park is a charming hidden gem nestled in Bucharest’s historic Cotroceni district, perched on a gently sloping hillside. Originally dubbed “La Tacalie,” meaning “hilltop,” this long and narrow green space lies between Alexandru Vitzu Street at its crest and Doctor Mihail Romniceanu Street at its base. It was thoughtfully laid out by the Sector 5 City Hall, offering a serene contrast to the bustling city nearby.

The park’s topography creates a picturesque, amphitheater–style effect, making it a popular spot for quiet strolls-especially in autumn when the canopy of mature trees turns golden and a carpet of fallen leaves lines the paved paths. Visitors will find a quaint children’s playground complete with swings and ping‑pong tables, and a marble‑clad circular artesian fountain (about 14 meters in diameter, with 250 nozzles that once sprayed up to 7 meters high) adding historical character, even if it’s currently non‑functional.

Tucked between the Carol I National Defense University and the BNR Arenas, Romniceanu Park is beloved by locals as a peaceful refuge. The park caters to dog walkers, joggers, parents, or anyone with a book seeking a quiet bench beneath the trees. In the colder months, its gentle inclines become popular for impromptu sledding sessions for children.

Though compact, the park is brimming with character. It’s a delightful stop if you’re touring nearby sites like Cotroceni Palace, the Botanical Garden, or the Infinitea Tea House. Whether for a morning walk, an informal picnic, or simply a moment of tranquility, Romniceanu Park offers a memorable, off–the–beaten‑path experience in the heart of Bucharest.
