Izvor Park, Bucharest

Izvor Park, Bucharest

Izvor Park (Parcul Izvor) is a leafy refuge nestled at the foot of Bucharest’s monumental Palace of the Parliament. Spanning approximately 17 hectares on the right bank of the Dambovita River, this park occupies a fascinating slice of history-it replaces the former Mihai‑Voda Hill and its associated monastery, which were dismantled in the 1980s to make way for grand communist-era projects. Established in the 1990s, the park was designed to soften the urban landscape, featuring four main promenades, meandering paths, and generous green lawns lined with young trees.

Today, Izvor Park is much more than just a green space-it’s a hub for adventure, leisure, and family fun. Joggers and cyclists enjoy the flat, scenic routes, while children delight in the playground crowned by a miniature “Children’s Parliament” castle, complete with slides and swings-including accessible options for kids with disabilities. Fitness zones and ping‑pong tables pepper the park, providing plenty of ways to get active amidst the greenery.

But the park’s appeal goes beyond amenities: it offers breathtaking views of the Palace of the Parliament’s imposing façade, especially evocative at sunset or when illuminated at night. The atmosphere is further enlivened by seasonal cultural activities-open-air concerts, festivals, and exhibitions that draw crowds and animate the park on weekends and evenings.

Getting here is easy. Izvor metro station on lines M1 and M3 sits just steps away, while numerous bus lines stop nearby. The park is open year-round and free to visitors, making it a perfect pit stop whether you’re exploring Bucharest’s historic core, sightseeing around the Palace, or simply in need of a serene urban interlude.
