Tomb of King Tutankhamun, Luxor

The Tomb of King Tutankhamun is one of the most famous discoveries in the Valley of the Kings and offers visitors a direct connection to ancient Egyptian history. Tutankhamun became pharaoh as a child during the 18th Dynasty and ruled in the 14th century BCE. His tomb became famous after Howard Carter found it in 1922, unusually well preserved.

Unlike many neighboring tombs, which were heavily looted in antiquity, Tutankhamun’s burial chamber preserved a remarkable collection of objects intended for the king’s journey into the afterlife. More than 5,000 objects were found, including chariots, jewelry, weapons, and ritual items. Many are now in museums, while the tomb still contains the burial chamber and Tutankhamun’s mummy in a glass enclosure.

The tomb is relatively small compared with other royal tombs in the valley, yet its painted walls provide valuable insight into ancient funerary beliefs. The painted walls show funerary rituals and the king’s journey into the afterlife. Today, the tomb remains a key site for understanding ancient Egyptian burial beliefs.
