Tucson Children's Museum, Tucson

Tucson Children's Museum is a family-focused museum built around learning through play. Founded in 1986 as the Southwest Children’s Exploratory Center, it moved into a historic Carnegie Library building in 1991. Today, the museum occupies about 17,000 square feet and is designed mainly for children up to age 10, with indoor exhibit areas and an outdoor courtyard.

The exhibits encourage children to touch, build, experiment, and use their imagination. Electricity introduces circuits, solar power, and generators, while Gravity explores motion through ball tracks and other hands-on activities. In Imagine It!, children can paint, construct structures, and create objects from recycled materials. Other spaces include Pet Vet, where young visitors can pretend to care for animals, and Community Care, featuring a fire engine, police motorcycle, and ambulance.

Local landscapes and culture also appear in Sense of Place, which introduces children to desert scenery, caves, mountains, and astronomy through playful displays. Younger visitors have their own area in Wee World, with climbing features, costumes, musical elements, and a reading corner. The courtyard adds outdoor musical instruments and space for active play, giving families opportunities to move between creative, scientific, and imaginative activities.
