University of Stavanger's Archeological Museum, Stavanger

The University of Stavanger's Archeological Museum was established in 1975 as an independent entity. After splitting from Stavanger Museum, it became part of the University of Stavanger on January 1, 2009.

The museum focuses on the history of Rogaland from the Stone Age through to the end of the Middle Ages. It is one of Norway's five major antiquities collections and serves as a center for environmental archaeology. Additionally, the museum manages the Iron Age Farm at Ullandhaug, an open-air museum near the university. Public exhibitions and research-driven outreach are key priorities for the museum.

The museum's collection includes approximately 12,000 archaeological finds from Rogaland, along with a natural sciences archive. It also houses a specialized library with resources on archaeology, conservation, botany, art history, medieval history, and local history specific to Rogaland. The museum operates its own publishing house, which produces the magazine Frá haug ok heiðni.

Visitors can explore both permanent and temporary exhibitions at the museum. Among the permanent exhibitions is "Meet the Man," showcasing Norway's best-preserved Stone Age skeleton, the 8,200-year-old Viste-guten. Another exhibit, "Polar Bear from Finnøy," displays a 12,400-year-old polar bear skeleton, while "Warrior and Housewife" presents artifacts from the Migration Period (400-550 CE) in Rogaland.
