Zelezniski muzej (Slovenian Railway Museum), Ljubljana

The Slovenian Railway Museum explores the history of rail transport in Slovenia through a collection of historic locomotives, carriages, machinery, and railway equipment. Although railway heritage began to be collected during the 1960s, the museum was formally established in 1981. It occupies former Austro-Hungarian railway workshops, including a boiler house, locomotive shed, and roundhouse once used for repairs and maintenance.

The museum's highlights include large steam locomotives, early diesel and electric engines, passenger coaches, freight wagons, and a rare motor railcar. Around ten carefully preserved steam locomotives are displayed inside the rotunda, while the wider collection includes more than 60 historic engines. Exhibits include signalling equipment, uniforms, models, and a reconstructed station master's office. A working turntable is demonstrated during special events.

Many displays explain the lives of railway workers, from engineers and conductors to maintenance crews, offering insight into a profession that shaped transport for generations. Temporary exhibitions and locomotive demonstrations appeal to families and railway enthusiasts, while the preserved workshops reveal the setting of a historic railway depot.
