Pivovarski muzej (Brewery Museum), Ljubljana

Pivovarski muzej (Brewery Museum) explores the history of brewing in Slovenia through the story of Union Brewery, one of the country's best-known breweries. Located within the historic brewery complex, the museum presents more than 150 years of brewing heritage, beginning with the brewery's founding in 1864. Original industrial spaces and preserved equipment show how brewing evolved from traditional methods into a modern industry while highlighting the site's importance in Slovenia's industrial development.

The exhibition covers more than 600 square metres and displays historic brewing machinery, copper kettles, wooden barrels, bottles, labels, advertising posters, delivery equipment, and archival photographs. Interactive exhibits explain each stage of the brewing process, from selecting ingredients and malting to fermentation, filtration, and bottling. Visitors also learn about the role of water, hops, malt, and yeast, as well as the technological advances that shaped beer production over the decades.

Today, the museum combines its historic displays with modern technology. Since large-scale commercial production has moved elsewhere, guided tours use virtual reality to take visitors through the brewery's former production lines and explain contemporary brewing processes. Guests can watch seasonal beers being made in the boutique brewery and finish the tour with a tasting of selected Union beers.
