Given its location and recent bad press, Indianapolis may not sit very high on your list of top travel destinations. But believe it or not, Indy ranks as one of the top 15 largest cities in the U.S. Aside from a few misguided politicians and leaders, Indianapolis is home to many progressive thinkers. While I may be a bit biased because it’s my hometown, Indy truly is worthy of visiting and has plenty to offer every type of traveler. Whether you prefer to learn about its history or experience more trendy locales, the Circle City has something for everyone. Here’s how to enjoy this 1 city 5 ways.

SEE: The Circle. Indianapolis is known as the “Circle City” because its city center is, quite literally, a circle. Here you’ll find the historic Soldiers & Sailors Monument, which happens to be the largest outdoor memorial in the state. There are also restaurants and coffee shops as well as festivals and parades that take place here throughout the year.

EAT: St. Elmo. Built in 1902, St. Elmo Steakhouse is one of the oldest steakhouses in the city. While it does serve up delicious meats, it is best known for its flaming shrimp cocktail sauce.
