ComedySportz, Los Angeles

ComedySportz Los Angeles, a prominent improvisational comedy troupe, currently stages a combination of shortform and longform performances at the National Comedy Theatre in Hollywood. The troupe was established in 1988 by James Thomas Bailey and stands as one of the most successful ComedySportz branches.

ComedySportz initially launched its performances at the West Coast Ensemble Theatre in Hollywood in 1988. In 1992, it relocated to the Tamarind Theatre, also in Hollywood, and remained there until 2002. Subsequently, the company secured its dedicated performance venue, the National Comedy Theater. In 1998, ComedySportz Los Angeles expanded its horizons by presenting "Ticket Takers" at Universal Studios, delivering improvisational and sketch comedy at CityWalk.

Many of the theater's performers also serve as coaches and referees in the theater's High School League—a youth improv training initiative meticulously cultivated by the theater. This league now boasts participation from over seventy schools spanning from San Diego to Thousand Oaks, and numerous High School League participants have transitioned to join the Main Company.

While ComedySportz LA is renowned for its competitive shortform format, it offers a diverse array of improvised shows. Among these productions are "U-sical," a longform musical that incorporates an audience member's story; "Chickspeare," a Shakespearean longform entirely performed by women; "The High," a parody of teen soap operas; and "Mannerhouse Manor," a longform show styled after "Downton Abbey."
