Galerija Fotografija (art gallery), Ljubljana

Galerija Fotografija (art gallery), Ljubljana

Galerija Fotografija was established in 2003 by documentary photographer Barbara Čeferin as Slovenia’s first private gallery devoted to fine art photography. At a time when photography had a limited presence in the country’s art market, it helped encourage interest in collecting photographic prints. The gallery now operates at Center Rog and organises up to eight exhibitions annually, presenting Slovenian and international artists.

Its programme covers documentary, conceptual, portrait, landscape, and experimental photography, including works that connect photography with other artistic media. It also hosts talks, workshops, portfolio reviews, guided visits, and book events. A specialist bookshop, opened in 2014, sells photobooks, catalogues, archival materials, and limited editions.

The gallery established Fotocona, a photobook section at the Slovene Book Fair, in 2018. It also participates in cultural programmes and has presented Slovenian photography at international art fairs since 2009. Regularly changing exhibitions and a strong publishing programme introduce visitors to individual prints, photographic series, and longer visual narratives.
