Gordon River Greenway, Naples

The Gordon River Greenway is a nearly 2-mile system of trails and boardwalks meandering along the Gordon River in the heart of Naples. Designed as a tranquil escape into nature, this scenic pathway connects Golden Gate Parkway to Baker Park, offering a mix of paved trails, wooden boardwalks, and bridges that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the lush surroundings.

The trail begins at a northern trailhead along Golden Gate Parkway, across from Freedom Park. From there, two parallel trails head south before merging into one, with a short spur leading west to the Naples Zoo. Continuing south, the pathway passes through a nearly half-mile unpaved loop before crossing the Gordon River. On the other side, it skirts the western edge of Naples Airport, crosses the river once more, and terminates at Baker Park. A separate connection to the bike path along North Road allows for further exploration south and east of the airport.

Spanning a 126-acre natural area, the Greenway offers a rich variety of landscapes, including palm groves, pine flatwoods, scrubland, and dense mangrove forests. Elevated boardwalks allow for immersive wetland experiences, and strategically placed bump-outs on the bridges provide perfect spots for birdwatching, fishing, or simply soaking in the scenic beauty. The trail is well-maintained, with covered benches, restrooms, bike racks, and drinking fountains ensuring comfort for visitors of all ages and abilities.

The Gordon River Greenway is more than just a walking or cycling route-it is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, paddlers, and families looking for an easy yet engaging outdoor experience. Kayakers can parallel the pathway along the river, while runners and cyclists can take advantage of the smooth 12-foot-wide pavement. The southernmost section even encircles two small ponds, adding another scenic element to the journey.
