Lumbini Park, Hyderabad
Lumbini Park is named after the birthplace of Siddhartha, later known as Lord Buddha. Part of the Buddha Purnima project, the park was renamed T. Anjaiah Lumbini Park in 2006 after a former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, though it remains popularly known as Lumbini Park. Located near the famous standing statue of Lord Buddha and Hussain Sagar Lake, Asia's largest artificial lake, Lumbini Park is a delightful place to visit. It's a favorite among kids, featuring fun rides and serving as a mini entertainment park right in the heart of the city by a beautiful lake.
Boating tickets are available at the park entrance, and visitors can combine boating with the highly popular laser show hosted at Lumbini Park. Boating facilities are offered at the jetty, providing a closer view of the monolithic Buddha statue in the lake's center. Visitors can choose between slow and fast boats, both well-maintained and safe.
The Buddha Statue of Hyderabad is a monolith and the world's tallest statue of Gautama Buddha, located on Gibraltar Rock in the middle of Hussain Sagar. This impressive statue stands at 72 feet (22 meters) tall and weighs over 450 tons, making it the largest single-stone Buddha statue globally. It was placed slightly closer to the NTR Memorial Gardens due to engineering challenges. The statue, carved from white granite found near Nalgonda, about 40 miles from Hyderabad, took nearly two years to complete with the efforts of around 200 sculptors. The statue also holds religious significance, having been sanctified by the Dalai Lama in 2006.
