Pavilion, Hanover

The Pavilion in Hanover is a remarkable cultural and communication center. Located strategically on Weißekreuzplatz, at the start of the Lister Meile near Raschplatz and the main train station, this venue, also known as the Raschplatz Pavilion, has been a vibrant hub of cultural exchange and public events since 1977.

Annually, the Pavilion hosts around 350 cultural events, reflecting its status as an open house for diverse cultures. The range of activities is broad and inclusive, encompassing concerts, theater productions, cabaret, comedy shows, readings, political debates, exhibitions, congresses, discos, parties, dance events, film screenings, seminars, bazaars, and lectures. This variety ensures that the Pavilion remains a dynamic and engaging space for people from all walks of life.

Over the years, the Pavilion has gained recognition beyond Hanover, particularly for the MASALA World Music Festival. This prestigious event has its roots in the Third World Days, initiated in 1981, and the African Nights, which began in 1985. The festival itself was first held in 1995 and has since become an annual highlight, attracting a wide array of international artists and audiences.

A noteworthy aspect of the Pavilion is its commitment to sustainability, exemplified by the solar pavilion constructed in 2000 for EXPO 2000. This structure features a prominent solar power system covering an area of 400 square meters on its roof, symbolizing a blend of cultural vibrancy and environmental consciousness. This integration of renewable energy into its design not only underscores the Pavilion's role as a cultural landmark but also its dedication to ecological responsibility.
