Villa Del Magro, Lucca

Villa Del Magro, Lucca

Villa del Magro is an elegant early 20th-century mansion located on Viale Giusti in Lucca, near the historic city walls. Built during the first decade of the century by Del Magro, the villa stands as a testament to the architectural style of its time, preserving much of its original appearance to this day.

The villa is a square-based structure with three floors and a cellar, topped with a hip roof covered in Marseillais tiles. Its main facades face west, overlooking the ring road, and south, toward Viale Cadorna, while the eastern side opens onto a garden. The overall design has remained largely unchanged since its construction, maintaining its historical integrity.

The ground floor features modularly separated facades adorned with imitation ashlar pilasters framing large round-arched openings. These pilasters transition into smooth surfaces that extend to the eaves, which are decorated with anthropomorphic depictions. The main entrance, located on the west-facing facade, is accentuated by wrought iron rostre on the vaulted section, connected by a continuous stone fascia aligning with the arches. Inside, a refurbished apartment on this floor retains original painted wooden doors and ceramic flooring, likely dating back to the 1950s.

On the first floor, arched windows with decorative frames, sculpted corbels, and festoon motifs enhance the architectural sophistication. Large terraces with corbels and balustrades, adorned with alettes, further embellish the main facades. The second floor continues this design language but in a more understated manner, with simpler windows and terraces.

Villa del Magro, though private and not open to visitors, remains a striking architectural landmark in Lucca, offering a glimpse into the city's early 20th-century residential grandeur.
