Siam Shopping Walk, Bangkok

Siam Shopping Walk (Self Guided), Bangkok

The Siam district is brimming with a plethora of luxury shopping options. Follow the smart and sophisticated set and browse the world-famous high-end brand stores and independent outlets along Khwaeng Pathum Wan and Thanon Ratchadamri. They are home to fabulous fashions and exquisite creations, and although some of the prices are top of the range, many mid-price and cheaper items can easily be found. The area reeks class and luxury, which is not surprising as Siam is the most expensive place to rent land in the city.

Among all the luxury shopping malls, one stands out in particular. Siam Paragon is one of the biggest shopping centers in Thailand, and there are many who consider it to be the center of Bangkok. There are more than 250 stores spread across its 500,000 square meters, many of them catering for well-heeled shoppers. Whether it’s fashion, jewelry or beauty products you are after, many top international brands can be purchased here.

Siam Paragon also offers its visitors a delightful range of gourmet restaurants as well as an entertainment center featuring cinema screens and Siam Ocean World, a two-story aquatic wonderland. This is Southeast Asia’s largest aquarium and on display are thousands of creatures from the world's oceans and rivers.

Bangkok Old City Walk

Bangkok Old City Walk

The Thai capital Bangkok emerged in the 15th century as a small trading post in the Chao Phraya River delta. The origin of the name “Bangkok” is unclear and was likely a colloquial adopted by foreigners, in which Bang is the Thai word for “village on a stream” and Ko means “island”, referring to the city's watery landscape. Eating is huge in Bangkok, and luckily for the famished, you won't be that way for long, regardless of the hour. You can find conglomerations of vendors selling five-star fast food (in the you-won't-have-to-wait-long-to-enjoy-it sense, not McDonald's style) for under 100 baht (roughly...
