Chinatown and Arts District Walk (Self Guided), Honolulu

There are many rich and exciting cultural opportunities awaiting the visitor to Honolulu. Tour Chinatown’s fantastic maze of streets filled with herbalists, temples, bars, restaurants and an eclectic mix of shops. Stop by art galleries, browse open-air markets for exotic fruits and spices and see historic buildings in a neighborhood that's been here for more than 140 years. This is one of the oldest Chinatowns in the United States and many of the buildings date back to the early years of the 20th century.

Try some local food specialties. The dim sum alone is worthy of a visit. Don't leave Chinatown without explore the stalls of Oahu Market. Established in 1904, this is the oldest produce market in Honolulu. Treat your taste buds to tropical fruits, seafood, roast duck, chicken and much more.

For more cultural experiences, make your way over to the Arts District, which delights with its galleries, theaters, restaurants, shops and nightclubs. If art is your thing, pick up authentic Hawaiian paintings, textiles and glass-blown pieces from one of the galleries. Watch a play, concert, movie or dance performance at the Hawaii Theater Center, a historic vaudeville theater and cinema.

The Arts District is also a good place to come for a great night out. There is a good range of restaurants featuring local and international cuisines and the area occasionally hosts musical extravaganzas such as the popular 80s Pop Muzik Night.
