Ginza Shopping Walk (Self Guided), Tokyo
If you love to shop then the Ginza district was made just for you. The main roads and side streets of this upmarket shopping destination are filled with shops, including department stores and designer boutiques. Here you can browse and buy high-end and high street fashions as well as cosmetics, unique souvenirs, televisions, stereos and other electronic goods. Among the leading fashion brands at Ginza are Hermès, Dior and Chanel. You will also find Tokyo's four largest department stores, Mitsukoshi, Matsuya, Matsuzakaya and Waco.
One of the first things you will notice here are the width of the boulevards. They are much wider than many of the city’s other streets making shopping here a much less congested experience. On the weekends, the area is closed to traffic, so you can shop without worrying about passing cars and buses. Wander down the side streets to find independent shops selling such wares as paintings, jewelry and trinkets.
Stop at a café and sip coffee on an outside terrace. Don't leave the area without throwing some admiring glances at the 1932 clock tower of the Wako building. This Neo-Renaissance-style edifice is one of the most famous buildings in the country. Inside, find jewelry and other luxury items for sale.
