Rummaging through the shelves of its many independent stores is an exciting affair. There are vintage clothes shops, independent record and book stores, quirky gift shops and trendy fashion labels. Among the racks you may find some very inventive clothing creations by up and coming fashion designers.

Music lovers will be thrilled to learn that there are many record shops that sell vintage and brand new vinyl releases, although how long they remain here as the world has gone digital is anybody's guess.

Away from the shops, visitors to the Northern Quarter can dine on very good food in its independent restaurants. Hearty meals can also be enjoyed in some of the many bars and pubs that pepper the area. They range from traditional northern English pubs serving craft beers to fashionable bars offering a myriad of fancy cocktail creations. The choice is extensive.
